Ric Renton joins writing team and cast of Waiting For The Out
We’re thrilled to share that Ric Renton — writer, performer, and long-time Synergy collaborator — has joined the writing team and cast of Waiting For The Out, a new six-part BBC One drama from Dennis Kelly, based on Andy West’s memoir The Life Inside. Filming is currently underway in Liverpool.
Ric’s journey from prison to playwright has been extraordinary. We’ve been proud to support his voice through productions like Nothing in a Butterfly (Omnibus, 2022), One Off (Paines Plough & Live Theatre, 2022), and our short film Cancer Cells.
Waiting For The Out follows Dan, a philosopher teaching in prison, who confronts his own past as his family’s history of incarceration resurfaces. The series delves into themes of masculinity, guilt, and freedom, offering a nuanced look at the justice system.
Ric’s involvement in this project underscores the transformative power of storytelling and the importance of amplifying voices with lived experience. We can’t wait to see the impact of his contribution on this compelling narrative.
