Synergy Studio comprises free introductory courses in acting, stage management and workshop facilitation for ex-prisoners. Led by mainstream experts these provide opportunity for the development of specific and transferable skills and equips individuals for employment on the education programme and beyond.
Taught by a professional actor the course teaches basic acting techniques drawing on the influences of Stanislavski and Meisner to develop, truthful characterisation and stage relationships, purposeful dialogue and the ability to remain in the moment. The course culminates in a showcase of scenes performed to an invited audience.
Taught by a practising professional the course introduces an overview of basic practical stage management skills including managing the rehearsal room, running the book, prompting, propping, show reports and lighting and sound operation. The course includes working with a technician in a theatre, observing a technical rehearsal and culminates in the group stage managing a rehearsal with professional actors.
Drama workshop Facilitation
Led by an expert workshop facilitator the course looks at a range of skills from managing human behaviour, leading by example, child protection, drama games, role plays and techniques and delivering personal testimony. It culminates in the participants applying their skills learned by jointly delivering a workshop for young people.
Working in partnership with the V&A Synergy delivers bespoke training courses for ex-prisoners alongside their exhibitions and this has included a costume design course alongside the Hollywood exhibition and a writing course alongside Sky Arts Ignition: Memory Place.
