Impact of the work

Feedback from many prisoners suggests that active participation in Synergy's projects develops practical, psychological and social skills essential on the path to release, rehabilitation and social integration. In addition, Synergy provides training and some paid employment to ex-prisoners in order to increase employability and help break the cycle of offending.

By presenting work in the public arena, Synergy aims to challenge perceptions and create opportunity for dialogue between prisoners and the public. On average, 80% of Synergy's audiences attend post show discussions.

External evaluation by the Anne Peaker Centre for Arts in Criminal Justice has provided an objective and more in-depth study of the impact of Synergy's work and is available upon request.

"I used to doubt myself all the time but doing the project made me realise I can do anything I set out for, and whenever I doubt myself I'll always look back to that day for motivation."
