As part of Synergy’s new writing programme the company is delivering writing courses, Tales of the Unexpected, throughout the year across the criminal justice sector at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The course tutors comprise mainstream professional writers, dramaturgs and directors

The 2009 autumn programme of courses, in partnership with Hampstead Theatre, took place at HMP High Down with an ex-prisoner course at the theatre. The course tutors included Michael Bhim, Charlotte Thompson, Jane Bodie and Ola Animashawun. At the end of the courses professional actors performed scenes written by the participants.

Future courses will target specific groups within the criminal justice system.
