Accidental Death of An Anarchist
The cast and audience at HMP Wandsworth found great pleasure in the subversive humour of Dario Fo's political farce about police corruption in Italy in the 1960's. Based on events surrounding the death of an anarchist in police custody, the play examines the nature of power in contemporary society and exposes some of its contradictions.
The cast and crew consisted of twelve prisoners at HMP Wandsworth. The prisoner who played the lead role is now working successfully as an actor in the professional mainstream.
The production was performed during April 2001 at HMP Wandsworth to prisoners and an invited public including the cast's families and friends.
"I have seen the play a few times but genuinely enjoyed the performance at Wandsworth the most. The reactions I heard from the audience round me seemed to agree."
