A Few Good Men
Aaron Sorkin's judicial thriller set in Guantanamo Bay looks at the self-protective world of the US military and the malpractice that can evolve out of secret codes of honour. The play's connections with the dangers that lurk within closed institutions drew clear parallels with the prison system.
The cast and crew consisted of twenty-five prisoners from HMP The Mount, a Category C training prison near Hemel Hempstead where prisoners often serve large proportions of their sentences.
The production was performed during December 2001 at HMP The Mount to audiences of prisoners and an invited public, including the cast's families and friends.
"I think it is true to say that it was considered a great success by those who saw it... and has also shown some prisoners how drama can contribute to their own lives, as well as towards others."
Governor Paul Wailen, HMP The Mount, on 'A Few Good Men'
