Synergy Theatre Project, Someone Who'll Watch Over Me

Someone Who'll Watch Over Me
Frank McGuiness's extraordinary study of hostage confinement in Beirut echoed themes surrounding the psychology of imprisonment profoundly relevant to the cast of ex-prisoners who performed it. Someone Who'll Watch Over Me was Synergy's first ex-prisoner production.
The cast and crew consisted of five ex-prisoners, four of whom had worked with Synergy previously. During the course of rehearsals, one of the cast was re-arrested which resulted in him having to be replaced by a professional actor. However, he continues to work with the company.
The production was performed during October and November 2002 at HMPs Downview, Holloway, Latchmere House, Pentonville, Wandsworth, Nescot College, Roehampton University and Southwark Playhouse.
"Esther Baker's visually knowing, humorous and heart-breaking production reveals the tentative relationships built between three men who have nothing in common but their imprisonment."
